Arizona State University (ASU) Baobab Evaluation

Arizona State University (ASU) developed and implements Baobab on behalf of the Mastercard Foundation. Baobab is a digital social, professional, learning community for young African leaders and participants and alumni of Mastercard Foundation programmes.

NBA is currently contracted as Baobab's evaluation partner. The evaluation is grounded in a youth participatory approach and seeks to build capacity of young African researchers. As such, NBA manages and supports a team of researchers from several African countries to conduct this evaluation. Amongst others, the evaluation involves conducting interviews and focus groups with Mastercard Foundation Scholars and Alumni in the countries of focus. During the first year of the research we worked with researchers based in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal and Rwanda. In the second year of this work we will be adding researchers from Benin, Ethiopia and South Africa.
